Zal Sissokho and Buntalo

Zal

There are three major West African lineages that continue to hand down the memory of the Mandingo peoples: Kouyaté, Diabaté and Sissokho. Zal Sissokho not only carries one of these names but also his family's rich musical heritage forward. With an incredible talent for improvisation, Zal plays the 21-string kora and sings melodies in Malinke and Wolof. Together with his group, Buntalo, he plays Mandingo classics and original compositions to create an electrifying sound that's both ancient and new.
