The 18+ improv league offers theatrical matches and shows to the public. The 18+ improv matches are friendly games and are not qualifying matches for the LIFC tournament.

Au cours de cette courte session acoustique, Aleksi Campagne partagera certaines des racines traditionnelles qui l'ont inspiré et ont influencé son style indie-folk unique : des valses traditionnelles, des tounes de violon, Gilles Vigneault, les chansons canadiennes-françaises tirées du recueil « La Bonne Chanson » et grands auteurs-compositeurs canadiens comme Connie Kaldor, Stephen Fearing et Stan Rogers.

In this short acoustic session, Aleksi Campagne will share some of the traditional roots that have inspired him and informed his unique indie-folk sound. From old time waltzes, fiddle tunes, poets like Gilles Vigneault, French Canadian songs in ‘la bonne chanson’ song books and great Canadian songwriters like Connie Kaldor, Stephen Fearing and Stan Rogers.

Bagatelle présentera un atelier centré sur le violon explorant des airs traditionnels québécois bien-aimés. Ils jetteront un regard sur d’autres traditions, en mettant en lumière ce qui rend le style québécois unique.

Bagatelle will present a fiddle tune workshop exploring beloved traditional Québécois tunes. They will take a wider look at other fiddle traditions, highlighting what makes the Québécois style distinctive.

2:30-3:00pm | Nicolas Pellerin et les Grands Hurleurs

Les Grands Hurleurs présentent l’origine de leur répertoire québécois, leur travail d’arrangements et leurs instruments à travers des démonstrations musicales. Une initiation à la podorythmie est aussi proposée pour découvrir le tapement de pieds.

Les Grands Hurleurs explore the origins of their French Canadian repertoire, their arranging process, and their instruments through musical demonstrations. A short introduction to podorythmie (foot-percussion) is also offered.

Jacques Surette vous offre un voyage musical et culturel dans son coin de pays, soit le Sud-Ouest de la Nouvelle-Écosse. Il invite le public à la découverte de son parler local, l’acadjonne, et de sa vie de jeune artiste.

Jacques Surette offers a musical and cultural journey to his home region in southwestern Nova Scotia. He invites audiences to discover the local dialect, acadjonne, and to learn more about his life as a young artist.

To celebrate the end of the tournament, come watch a match full of twists and surprises. Remixed teams, youth vs coaches, brand-new themes and categories. A match that showcases the possibilities of improv.

“Grouiller les pieds” est un atelier de gigue canadienne-française pour les gens de 5 à 100 ans! Les participants y apprennent des pas de base, participent à des danses de groupe, et Micah leur présente également des pas de différentes cultures qui ont influencé l’évolution de la gigue au Manitoba.

“Grouiller les pieds” is a French Canadian step-dancing (gigue) workshop for people aged 5 to 100! Participants learn basic steps, take part in group dances. Micah! also introduces steps from different cultures that have influenced the evolution of gigue in Manitoba.

1:30-2:00pm | Tom Landa (Locarno)

Tom Landa est né à Mexico et a grandi dans un foyer bilingue avant de s’installer au Canada à l’adolescence. Depuis 35 ans, il mêle l’anglais et l’espagnol dans ses chansons. En 2008, il s’est installé à Xalapa pour étudier le son jarocho, une musique traditionnelle aux racines afro, espagnoles et autochtones. Tom présentera des histoires et des chansons du Mexique, ainsi que des compositions originales reflétant son identité biculturelle. Il sera accompagné du guitariste mexicano-canadien Pedro Mota.

Tom Landa was born in Mexico City and raised in a bilingual home, moving to Canada as a teen. Over his 35-year career, he has woven English and Spanish into his songwriting. In 2008, he moved to Xalapa, Mexico, to study Son Jarocho, a traditional music rooted in Afro, Spanish, and Indigenous traditions. Now splitting his time between Canada and Mexico—like the Colibrí Calliope, which inspired Locarno’s latest album—Tom will share stories and songs from Mexico alongside original works reflecting his bi-cultural identity. He’ll be joined by Mexican-Canadian guitarist Pedro Mota of Locarno.

Joignez-vous aux jeunes musiciens du North Shore Celtic Ensemble alors qu’ils et elles partagent leurs tounes préférés et les histoires qui les ont menés au violon et à la musique traditionnelle.

Join the young musicians from the North Shore Celtic Ensemble as they play their favourite fiddle tunes and the stories that brought them to play the fiddle and traditional fiddle music. This workshop is well suited for children – budding musicians and their parents!
